And finally, the dream of fingerprint sensor under the display seems to be becoming true. The Chinese OEM, Vivo had been working with Synaptics on this project. As a result, the new-gen Synaptics Clear ID FS9500 sensors are designed to be used with an OLED display, which seems to be showcased on this coming CES 2018. Actually, the CES 2018 is about to kick off, a lot of new products are expected. Among them, Vivo’s device with the under-display embedded fingerprint scanner will be one.
The Vivo has released a teaser image which clears that the company is planning to showcase a phone with embedded fingerprint sensor technology. The fingerprint scanner embedded on home button or at the rear is becoming mainstream. So the under-display embedded fingerprint scanner seems to be quite exciting. As the sensor will be placed under the display, it can be used with wet and cold hands, as well as it will be scratch resistant too.
The scanner features security features like adaptive fingerprint template matching and verification as well as anti-spoofing technology. The Synaptics has claimed that as many as 70 million units of these sensors will be available in the market in 2018. That means the mass production of optical under-display embedded fingerprint scanner chip seems to have become possible.
Last week, the Vivo X20 Plus UD also received the 3C verifications. So, it is believed that the UD stands for under display, suggesting the X20 Plus UD could be first ever phone to embedded the under-display fingerprint scanner. And it is also expected that the Vivo X20 Plus UD will sport 6.43-inch Infinity display with 18:9 aspect ratio, Snapdragon 660 processor, 4GB/6GB RAM and 3,905mAh battery.
