One of the most loved device in Nepal is the Huawei Nova 3 and Nova 3i. The Huawei Nova series: the smartphone to keep an eye on. The queue on the first-day sale event at the official Huawei store was the visual example of the popularity of the devices in Nepal. We have got an opportunity to use the devices for more than a month. Here is our view on what we find interesting in our unit.
Gaming experience with the 6 series
The 6.3-inch Nova 3 packs Huawei’s in-house Kirin 970 chipset, paired with 6GB of RAM. With the premium level SoC, this device is a powerhouse. During our review period, the device matched our gaming expectation. With the powerful SoC, using the camera, playing the game or doing any other heavy task there wasn’t any significant issue. It will go smoothly all the way. It’s been almost four weeks that I have been using the phone, I played a lot of games like Candy Crush, Marriage, Asphalt 9: Legends, Fortnite and of course the PUBG Mobile. And this device is definitely the best gaming phone for the gamers.
During the period we had the device, playing the PUBG Mobile for 4-5 hours we felt no disturbance, even setting the graphics to HD and Frame Rate to High, there was no issue. Not only with PUBG Mobile, but there was no such issue with the Asphalt 9, the game is running smoothly. Along with these two graphics intensive games, playing other light games the gaming performance kept on par.
Besides the powerful processor, Huawei’s innovative GPU Turbo technology gaming experience on this device has been even enhanced more. The Huawei’s GPU Turbo is a graphics processing acceleration technology that completely re-architects how graphics are processed on a system level, this makes gaming is notably faster and consume less battery to do it, hence increasing battery backup time. As the battery consumption is lower, the cooler will be the smartphones.
AI Powered Photography
Huawei is selling the Nova series on the base of its cameras. Similar to its predecessor, the Nova 3 and 3i have four cameras, a couple on either side. Besides, the new nova 3 and 3i cameras are AI-powered, where it can recognize over 200 scenarios across eight categories including Blue sky, Plant, and Beach. While the rear cameras are activated, the AI can automatically identify more than 500 typical scenarios across 22 categories. Moreover, the AI reads the contour, texture, color gradient, illumination of its camera subjects, and takes them into consideration together with depth information before executing the beautification process. The powerful algorithms account for the subject’s expression, outfit, pose, ambient lighting to improve the portrait taking experience.
The device features a 24MP + 16MP dual camera as primary, and for selfies, there is 24MP + 2MP dual lenses. The cameras are fantastic, with HDR Pro mode on the selfie camera, it provides with bright backgrounds. Similarly, it comes with portrait mode and lighting options, edge detection and blur more are decent in performance. Besides, all this there is also AR stickers, though they don’t have much real-life usage, sometimes, it was fun to fool around with friends and family.
Now, let’s talk about the real-life usage of the camera. The daylight photography is perfect, with both the front and back sensors. The added AI feature helps to enhance the images by detecting the subject and background and adding tweaks on it. The low light images were fine and detailed.
Ever after downloading tons of games (some big games like PUBG Mobile and Asphalt 9) and clicking multiple shots in multiple things there was still a lot of free storage.
