We have seen the days of the dial-up internet when we had to wait for a while to watch a simple image. Now we are living the age of the internet, where the internet is essential for everyday life. We even have made progress in the mobile internet, which has improved from the 2G (GPRS) to 4G LTE. Mobile internet is the major platform for using the internet in Nepal. Though the world on the verge of the breakthrough of 5th generation we are upgrading to somewhat old technology. Still, Smart Cell has got the license for the 4G technology.
While Nepal Telecom has already started 4th generation in Kathmandu and Pokhara and NCELL has already license and is doing final preparation to launch. There is a third operator ready to launch 4G. Nepal Telecommunication Authority (NTA) granted the 4G license to the Smart Telecom after clearing all its due and license fees. The company is mostly based in the rural area of the Western Region. Now with the 4G license in hand the company is all set to enter capital, most fruitful market. This will bring competition among the operators and benefits the customers ultimately with cheaper data and better service.
The company is planning to launch their 4G network in major cities from the 15th of Shravan (30th July, 2017). The company will operate the 4G network on 1800 MHz, same as NTC and NCELL.
However, many other international telecoms have started experimenting with 5G technology, we are still haggling over the 4G technology.
