At the launch event of the Samsung Galaxy S8, besides the phone itself, new AI assistant Bixby was also launched. With plans future Samsung phones to launched with Bixby. Though the assistant is in the early beta period, a dedicated button for Bixby was placed on the device and was launched with along with Google Assistant.
Initial feature is somewhat impressive but it is still to know how Bixby will mature with time. In between early beta period, there is news that it is following the footsteps of Amazon, Google, and Apple. With the plan, Samsung is working on smart speaker powered by Bixby AI assistant which is expanded to showcased IFA 2017.
According to rumors, the company has been working on the development of the smart speaker for a year already. In is referred to as “Vega”, based on the masked character from Street Fighter. But, final name is not decided, it might be called “Vega” or something with Bixby added with the name.
Samsung came to this field (Bixby Based Speakers) after other tech giants including Google, Amazon, and Apple.
With this smart speaker, Samsung is planning to head into the already competitive market. Amazon Echo holds the major share with more than 70% of the US market. And Google Home is also growing rapidly with the list of features added on speaker constantly. Microsoft and Apple both have plans to bring its voice-activated speakers, which make the competition even tougher for Samsung.
But with the current delay on the rollout of the full English-language Bixby for the Galaxy S8 phone has put the big question on the release of the smart speaker. Currently, Galaxy S8 users of some region have access to Bixby, but with limited functionality, and an absence of voice control function.
