In this modern day era of technology, no single device is a market leader. Every year, in fact in every 6-month company present its latest innovation to its customers through their newer lineup. While some companies pioneer in certain technology, other companies take the upper hand on others. Though the innovation seems gimmicky at first, they sometimes turn to be industry standards. Every manufacturer is competing with others to overtake to be an industry leader. With all these features packed top the shelf devices, let us compare between recently launched Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus and Huawei Mate 20 Pro.
Design and Display: A couple of beautiful beasts
In term of design, the Galaxy series which never opted for the notch on display, (which once became the industry standard) has an infinity-O display. In process of going all display on the front, the devices have punch holes on the display for the front-facing cameras. Whereas the Mate 20 Pro has notch display which houses dual camera. Both devices have glass on both sides, held together by an aluminum frame, protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5. Comparing the screen size side by side both devices are of an almost same size where Galaxy S10 Plus has 6.39inch display and Mate 20 Pro houses 6.40inch display. Both the devices are IP68 dust and water resistant rated.
Camera: “Say Cheeeeeeseee” or “Pout”
In terms of the camera technology, the Huawei must be credited on the camera technology, with the Huawei Mate 20 Pro being industry-first rear facing triple camera phone. The Galaxy S10 Plus also had a similar camera setup with one regular, one telephoto and one ultra-wide lens. The Huawei Mate 20 Pro packs 40MP Wide-angle, 20MP ultra wide angle and 8MP telephoto lens, whereas the Galaxy S10+ packs 16MP ultra wide, 12MP wide-angle and 12MP telephoto lens. Further, the Mate 20 Pro’s telephoto lens has 3X optical zoom capacity, whereas the 12MP telephoto lens of Galaxy S10+ can go only up to 2X zoom.
About selfie camera, which we use the most, in both the devices the front facing setup are placed at their respective cut out on the display. Galaxy S10+ has an upper hand with dual selfie camera. Besides, the DXOMARK rating of Huawei Mate 20 Pro is also highest among the flagship.
SoC and Memory
Likewise, both the devices pack the latest and greatest inside as well. Huawei Mate 20 Pro packs industry first 7nm architect based SoC with its in-house Kirin 980 chipset. Whereas the Galaxy S10 Plus comes with different SoC based on the county. The Galaxy S10 Plus with Snapdragon 855 is based in 7nm architect whereas Samsung’s in-house Exynos 9820 based on 8nm architect. Here’s the specs comparison of these three SOCs.
SoC Specs Comparision

If we compare the capacity of all three SoC, the Snapdragon 855 comes at first, Exynos 9820 in second and Kirin 890 at last. However, only a thin line makes these SoC different from one another. In real life situation, you will not notice a difference at all. However, putting the figures on the table, the Snapdragon 855 has a slight edge.
Talking about the memory, Galaxy S10 Plus has 12GB of RAM and 1TB of internal storage for the maxed-out specification. Whereas the Mate 20 Pro comes with 6GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. Do this figure really make any sense? I mean, having a 1TB or 256GB of storage makes any difference in your daily life usage.
Technically, Galaxy S10 Plus has higher hands, but 6GB RAM and 256GB internal storage will be more than enough, for almost all of us.
Battery
Both the devices have massive batteries, but while the Galaxy S10 Plus has 4100mAh battery, the Huawei Mate 20 Pro has slightly bigger 4200mAh battery. And Huawei’s 40W SuperCharge technology which charges the Mate 20 Pro 70% within 30mins make the Mate 20 Pro superior on the battery business. Both the devices support wireless charging, but the Mate 20 Pro was the industry first to showcase reverse charging. The reverse charging seems gimmicky on the Mate 20 Pro, with the PowerShares (reverse charging) on Galaxy S10 Plus, reverse charging has true potential in future being industry standard on charging small paired devices. Therefore, on the battery department, the Huawei Mate 20 Pro clearly wins the battle, with 40W supercharge.

Based on the initial inspection, we have compared two flagships. Once the Galaxy S10 Plus is officially launched in Nepal, we will come up with the full in-depth review and comparison between these devices. In meantime, Huawei is geared up to launch Huawei P30 in coming March, it will be interesting to see how Huawei is matched with Samsung Galaxy S10.
Initial Verdict
It is quite difficult to compare these flagships. As seen in the specs sheets, both of them are extremely powerful and beautiful looking. We cannot decide which one wins the race. However, given the facts and specs, the Huawei Mate 20 Pro and Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus come neck to neck. Definitely, Huawei Mate 20 Pro wins in the camera and battery capacity & charging department. On the other hand, the Galaxy S10 Plus has a higher hand on the SoC department. Remaining other specs, and feature like, design, display, sensor, colors option, etc. are almost similar.
