Government-owned Telecommunication Company, Nepal Telecom is all set to connect the fiber cable with China. Well, it’s been more than 6 months since Nepal telecom has signed an agreement with the Chinese telecom authority, still, any further progress is yet to be seen.
However, “all infrastructure construction and testing have been successfully completed. And within Mangshir business agreement will be signed” said Kaminiraj Bhandari, Managing Director, Nepal Telecom.
Nepal Telecom has already set up the optical fiber from Galchi, Dhading to Rasuwa, which is roughly 90KM.
Since, 2054 BS, Nepal Telecom is importing bandwidth from Indian Telecom companies. With this agreement with China, the Indian monopoly will be broken down and we could expect the quality of the service too.
Currently, Nepal is importing the bandwidth from BSNL, Bharat Panjab, Airtel and Reliance Telecom thorough Bhairahawa, Raksaul, and Birgunj border.
With this agreement with Chinese telecom, we could expect the major reduction in price and improvement in the service quality. However, some websites are blocked in China, we have to wait to see how that effects.
