Huawei has been expanding its feet in the Nepali market to grab the market share on every category. With this intention, the company has launched the Y-series, and Huawei Y7 Pro 2019 is among the device recently launched to continue strengthening the Y-series market in the budget category. Likewise, the other serious contender to dominate the market is Samsung. With the recent overhaul to focus on the limited number of the device, Samsung launched M-series which includes Galaxy M20.
With these two subpar twenty thousand category devices, let see how Huawei Y7 Pro 2019 and Samsung Galaxy M20 compete with each other.
Build and Design
As most of the typical budget devices on this price category, both Y7 Pro 2019 and Galaxy M20 have used plastic build. Though, distinguishing factor among the two devices is the Huawei shining color option such as Aurora, Red, and Black, whereas M20 has two color options of Ocean Blue and Charcoal Black.
With the plastic body, they do look very attractive, both the devices need to stay in their silicone cases most of the time. Plastic is easily scratched (as we’ve seen on other phones) so it’s not really advisable to use either phone without protection.
Both phones have dual camera setup on the back, vertically stacked and tucked on the upper left corner. Surprisingly the Y7 Pro is missing the rear fingerprint scanner which the Galaxy M20 comes with. However, on Y7 Pro, you have the face unlock (or the good ol’ fashioned PIN method) of securing your phone if you go with Huawei’s phone. In terms of design and color combination of the device, the Huawei Y7 Pro 2019 clearly wins.
Display
Both brands equipped their phones with very similar screens: the Y7 Pro has a 6.26-inch HD+ IPS panel, while the M20 has a 6.2-inch FHD+ PLS TFT display. Both phones have really small dewdrop notches on the top of the display that houses their selfie cameras. Well, In terms of screen resolutions Galaxy M20 is little ahead.
Hardware
Samsung Galaxy M20 comes with company’s in house Exynos 7904 processor, Huawei meanwhile equipped the Y7 Pro 2019 with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 450 chipset. Both the chipset are based on 14nm technology.
The M20 comes in two configurations: either 3GB/4GB RAM and 32GB/64GB of expandable storage, while the Y7 Pro comes in 3GB/32GB. In terms of performance, both devices seem quite similar. However, Galaxy M20 seems to have an upper hand. Nevertheless, day-to-day usage won’t make any difference, all the apps and features will be smooth in both devices.
Software and UI
Moving onto software, both the Y7 Pro and M20 are running on slightly old Android 8.1 Oreo, on the top of both devices has their own custom UI EMUI 8.2 and Experience 9.5 respectively.
Cameras
Both phones have identical camera setups on the rear, with Y7 Pro having 13-megapixel primary shooter with an f/1.8 aperture lens and a 2-megapixel secondary camera for depth information. And M20 has 13-megapixel primary shooter with an f/1.9 aperture lens and a 5-megapixel secondary camera.
The Y7 Pro 2019 has a higher resolution front camera compared to the M20 since it rocks a 16-megapixel front shooter compared to the 13-megapixel front camera of the M20.
Battery
Both phones have exceptionally large batteries inside of their plastic bodies, which should last you a heck of a long time depending on how you use them.
The M20 has a 5000mAh battery inside of it, while Huawei’s Y7 Pro 2019 has a 4000mAh battery. Both devices have fast charged, with M20 having 15W fast charging whereas Y7 Pro has 10W fast charging. On the USB side, the M20 has adopted Type-C and Y7 Pro has micro USB 2.0
Price
Both devices are priced at the same price tag. The base variant of M20 with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage is at Rs. 18,490, which is the same as the price of Y7 Pro with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage.
