Hamro TV, a new TV, and ISP launched the 4K Ultra HD TV channels and internet service in Nepal. The company is the first to start the UHD TV service in the country. Actually, the company started the construction and other technical/administrative since Jan-Feb, 2017.
Mr. Nanda Bahadur Pun, Vice president of Nepal Digital Cable Pvt. Ltd. inaugurated the service, on October 16, 2017.
Nepal is in process of ‘digitization’, replacing the current analog cable network with a digital system. The UN’s International Telecommunication Union (ITU) has set 2017 as the deadline for countries to go digital. This makes digitization mandatory by the end of the year 2017. Though the government has been working since 2012 on this, still most of the household are still using the analog connection. Keeping in mind of this mandatory transition to digital system rule, most of the cable network is upgrading to the digital system.
Talking about the “Harmo TV”, initiation by the company is appreciable, however, given the context of Nepal, most of the people don’t even have HD service, 4K service still has to wait. Almost 90% of Nepali TV channels provide either 480p or 720p resolution picture quality. Nevertheless, Hamro TV has started the 4K service, that means the 4K TVs will be used at full capacity, as many customers do not have 4K UHD enabled TV-set will eventually start buying one.
