Few months ago, the Chaudhary Group (CG) announced to launch telecom service in Nepal, which created some controversy and had to be settled by the Supreme Court. Now, the dream of Mr. Chaudhary seems to be come alive, as the CG signs a deal with Huawei Technologies to bring the new 4G service worth about $100 Million.
The initial investment of $250 million is on the new 4G network. The service will focus on free voice, data, online payments and other services. Even though the initial service is only 4G, the install technology will be upgraded to 5G service later on.
However, the recent controversies with US government, can also effect this project too. Even though the US has lifted the restriction, they have advised its allies to avoid Huawei as possible. Nevertheless, the new investment is coming to the country, it’s a good news for us.
Further, the Spokesman for NTA, Min Prasad Aryal said that the Chaudhary Group (CG) has applied for the license for wider network, if everything are as per standard; we will see a new competition soon.
