Can Nokia stand on its own, or its just a hype and nostalgia?

Not long ago, Nokia was the Tyrannosaurus of the mobile world.  As similar to fall of dinosaurs, the Nokia fell down, as it could not compete with the new companies and worse decision, they choose the Microsoft instead of Android.

Though, the new form of Nokia is again trying to crawl from its grave. Will it come to life again? Will Nokia dominate the mobile market again? These are very tough questions, let’s put some facts on the table.

Actually, it’s pretty clear that the Nokia is using nostalgia- fueled hype to get people excited for the new Nokia. The 2017 re-introduction of Nokia 3310 clears the reason behind it.

“I have never seen in my life that when we enter meetings, customers (distributors or trade partners) hug us – that’s because of Nokia (equity and trust),” Arto Nummela, Chief Executive Officer of HMD Global.

The comments of Arto clearly suggests how desperately people want the Nokia to rise up again and dominated as it used to.

We all know that still there are Nokia fans much alive till date. Many see Nokia as going back and correcting their mistake favoring Windows instead of Android. Being a Finnish company, it has more fans in Europe.

Actually, Nostalgia can be a very powerful thing. People are easily and naturally drawn towards to familiar things, especially if it reminds some past memories.

Nokia recently launched Nokia 3/5/6 smartphones. But will these phones drag them to the level they used to be? Actually, these phones do not stand out in any big way, when it comes to innovation. But, we can argue that they have some serious branding on them. Unlike Blackberry, Nokia fans have not moved on. They have some expectation or confidence, the Nokia will rise again.

Once this dusts of hype and nostalgia settle down, we will see where the new Nokia brand will stand out!
