Niantic Labs, the developer of last year’s popular game Pokémon Go, is now making the Harry Potter game, which is co-developed by Warner Bros. There were rumors since last year, that Harry Potter AR game is coming on the mobile. The company has recently collect venture capital funding of $200 million, which will be invested on further development of Augmented Reality.

Niantic confirmed the news, stating, “With Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, players that have been dreaming of becoming real-life Wizards will finally get the chance to experience J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World.”

According to Niantic, Harry Potter: Wizards Unite will be influenced by Niantic’s cult classic game Ingress, which allows people to collect boosts, defend locations, and explore their environment, mixing the real world and the digital. In Wizards Unite, players will fight “legendary beasts and team up with others to take down powerful enemies,” which we can assume to be Death Eaters and Lord Voldemort. Harry Potter’s magical elements mixing in with the Muggle world is already a theme in the books and movies, so we can expect to see that reappear now in AR form.
